Otto Waterlander appointed Naftogaz group COO

The Naftogaz supervisory board has appointed Otto A. Waterlander as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Naftogaz group. Mr. Waterlander also retains his current position as Naftogaz group Chief Transformation Officer (CTO)

The Naftogaz supervisory board has appointed Otto A. Waterlander as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Naftogaz group. Mr. Waterlander also retains his current position as Naftogaz group Chief Transformation Officer (CTO).

Otto Waterlander will be responsible for operations and transformation in the group. In particular, he will be responsible for the introduction of a new operating model and divisional management structure, the implementation of cross-functional processes, and the development of process databases.

"Otto Waterlander intensified and practically relaunched the transformation process at Naftogaz group when he joined our team. He clearly proved that global corporate solutions and standards can and should work in a Ukrainian state-owned company. We therefore expect that with his new powers, Otto will help Naftogaz to build partnerships with the shareholder and businesses as a real trendsetter in new operational standards," commented Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev.

Otto Waterlander has 30 years of experience across the oil and gas value chain. He has developed deep expertise in leading transformations, in operational and commercial business improvement, and in business development. Otto gained a distinctive profile in the natural gas and LNG markets, where he supported many companies in the (re)negotiation and arbitration of long-term contracts.

Before joining Naftogaz, Mr. Waterlander was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company where he co-led the global Oil & Gas practice. Before that, he was a Partner in the energy practice at Booz & Company. He started his career with Royal Dutch Shell in May 1990, where he had various roles in the Netherlands and Venezuela until the end of 1997.

Otto Waterlander acquired his Masters Degree in Business Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He speaks Dutch, English, German and Spanish.
