Naftogaz has analyzed the protocol concluded at the governmental level by representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the EU on 20 December 2019.

The company welcomes the fact that the Russian side has acknowledged the necessity to comply with the arbitration awards of 2017-2018 and expressed interest in continuing gas transmission to the EU through Ukraine.

Naftogaz has started to draft the agreements stipulated in the protocol. These documents include: an agreement on claim settlement, an agreement on transit organization between Naftogaz and Gazprom as well as a capacity booking contract between Naftogaz and Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU).

In addition to these documents, GTSOU continues to negotiate the text of the interconnection agreement with representatives of Gazprom. The agreement is a prerequisite to enable transit of Russian gas across Ukraine after 1 January 2020.

Naftogaz will negotiate legal and commercial details with Gazprom and other involved parties. As always, Naftogaz will act in the interests of the company and Ukraine as its shareholder and a reliable gas transit partner for Europe.

The company is committed to apply all efforts within its control to enable the continuation of gas transit on 1 January 2020.
