Kyiv, September 4, 2006

During August, 2006 the National Joint-Stock Company ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ pumped a record high monthly volume of natural gas for the needs of domestic consumers in all the years of independence of Ukraine into the underground gas storage facilities – 3.78 billion cubic meters. As of September 01, 2006 the Company accumulated 19.9 billion cubic meters of fuel in the UGSF.

Ukraine managed to increase natural gas injection into the UGSF after holding negotiations in August between ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ NJSC and ‘Gazprom’ OJSC.

In September the Company is planning to maintain the record high natural gas pumping schedule and inject a total of 3.2 billion cubic meters of gas. Every day structural subdivisions of ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ NJSC inject into the UGSF an average of 120 million cubic meters of the fuel. In all previous years the level of daily pumping in this period has not exceeded 90 million cubic meters.

Pursuant to the order of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and Minister of Fuel and Energy Yuriy Boyko, ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ NJSC plans to inject 24.0-24.5 billion cubic meters of fuel into the UGSF prior to commencement of the 2006-2007 heating season on October 15. This will provide for uninterrupted gas supply to all categories of consumers of Ukraine and reliable transit of Russian gas to the counties of the European Union.
