On February 16, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov and Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz discussed the development prospects of the project of Euro-Asian oil transportation corridor (EAOTC) and, in particular, extension of the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to the town of Plotsk and organizational cooperation of the parties at the project implementation stage. Considerable progress in the bilateral dialogue was noted in the project development domain.
After negotiations, the Prime Ministers put out a joint statement. The statement highlights that the Odessa-Brody-Plotsk project is first priority for both countries and that Ukraine and Poland play an important part in the development of Euro-Asian transit traffic for the enlarged European Union and in the development of strategic diversification directions for the EU power-supply sources.
The parties undertook to enter into in-depth consultations with the European Commission and other EU institutions for further activation of cooperation in the area.
The statement underscored that the parties embark on activities designed to develop an umbrella agreement between Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Poland, which would address, in a systemic fashion, the matter of the intergovernmental cooperation in implementing the Odessa-Brody-Plotsk project.
