Ukraine has not imported gas from Russia this year, as well as in 2016, with all imported supplies coming from the European direction.

Over the first 11 months of 2017, Naftogaz imported 8.2 bcm, 1.2 bcm (17%) more compared to the same period of 2016. This year, Naftogaz is procuring imported gas from 13 European suppliers, with none of them accounting for more than 30% in total gas imports.

Over the first 11 months of 2017, Naftogaz purchased 12.7 bcm from UGV compared with 11.9 bcm in the same period last year. Naftogaz is buying all marketable gas produced by UGV, except for the gas used for the entity’s own operating needs, production, processing and transmission as well as manufacturing of LPG and stable gasoline.

All gas purchased from UGV is used to satisfy needs of protected consumer categories, including households, religious organizations and district heating companies supplying hot water to households and religious organizations. Naftogaz provides imported gas when the demand of the said categories cannot be covered with its own production. The company is not supplying gas directly to households. The resource purchased by Naftogaz is further resold by private regional retailers according to Resolution #187 issued by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 22 March 2017.
