Naftogaz Group’s JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya has launched a new prospecting well with a depth of 5,800 meters and current production rate of 580 thousand cubic meters of gas per day.
This is one of the most productive wells launched by Ukrgasvydobuvannya in recent years. Moreover, it has created new prospects for a previously unexplored formation at one of the fields in Eastern Ukraine. The estimated prospective gas resources in this formation are more than 6 billion cubic meters. Currently, preparations are underway to drill two more new wells in this formation: a prospecting well and an exploration well," commented Naftogaz Group CEO Oleksiy Chernyshov.
The field has significant prospects and a complex geological structure which is further complicated by deep faults and has a block-like composition. The discovered gas deposits are located in a high-temperature section with abnormally high reservoir pressures.
Due to a lack of technology, it was previously impossible to develop promising deposits of this field at significant depths.
We recently conducted a state-of-the-art 3D seismic survey which made it possible to design this exploration well. The well has a complex controlled directional design. Drilling and exploration were challenging for the team of geologists, drillers and geophysicists but success was achieved. We will continue to work on unlocking the potential of this formation," commented Oleh Tolmachev, Acting CEO of Ukrgasvydobuvannya.
The well was drilled by the drilling crew of Shebelynka Drilling Division of Ukrburgaz Drilling Division with the involvement of experts from the LIKVO specialized emergency rescue service. Geophysical surveys were performed by employees of Ukrgaspromgeofizyka and Weatherford Ukraine LLC.
