Naftogaz has implemented the vision of “VISION ZERO” - the vision of HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) that envisages a “0” tolerance to injuries, deaths, accidents or any other negative consequences of operational activities.

Occupational safety is at the heart of everything we do at Naftogaz and is crucial to our success. Every day we strive to work safely, respecting the community in which we work, protecting the environment. We expect and encourage safe behavior, take responsibility for the well-being and safety of people, ensuring the safe implementation of our projects and operations.

7 "golden rules"

One of the main principles of Naftogaz's policy is the priority of life and health of employees, full responsibility of the company's managers for creating safe and healthy working conditions.

The company builds its work in this direction on the basis of the industry system of labor protection management, which is constantly updated and improved in accordance with international standards.

The company is aware of its responsibility to preserve the life, health and ability to work of its employees and strives to ensure the implementation of its international best practices in occupational safety and health management.

The main provisions of this experience are set out in the strategic document - the Seven "Golden Rules", which guide companies, enterprises and institutions in the European Union. The company ensures the implementation of leading international experience in occupational safety management.

7 “Golden Rules”: 

  • Responsibility and leadership in occupational safety.
  • Identification of hazards and risks (systematic identification of hazards and risks: risk assessment and analysis of accidents and occupational diseases).
  • Defining goals for occupational safety (defining priority risks and goals of prevention programmes).
  • Creating a safe system (systemic organization of occupational safety and health).
  • Use of safe and serviceable equipment.
  • Advanced training (basic qualification requirements, in-service training and regular training of managers and workers).
  • Investment in staff (motivating employees to form and effectively operate a health and safety management system, changing the role of employees from passive to active, laying an incentive basis for safe behaviour).

  • Naftogaz has built a health and safety management system that meets the requirements of the international standard ISO 45001: 2018, which is confirmed by the relevant certificate.

Industrial safety

One of the main activities of Naftogaz is to ensure the continuity and reliability of production facilities.

Therefore, industrial safety in the Naftogaz Group is a component of safety systems which is regulated by current standards and regulations.

The legal background for the operation of the industrial safety management system in the company are the laws of Ukraine, in particular:

  • Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On labor protection" states that one of the principles of state policy in the field of labor protection is "improving the level of industrial safety by ensuring continuous technical control over the state of production, technology and products";
  • Article 8 of the Law of Ukraine “On High-Risk Facilities” (harmonized with the directives on industrial safety of the European Union, in particular with the EU directive “Seveso”) contains the obligation of economic entities to ensure the operation of high-risk facilities with observance of the minimum possible risk, and also to fulfill requirements of this law and other regulatory legal acts regulating activity of objects of the increased danger.

In order to improve safety standards and ensure the implementation of the world's best advanced HSE standards, the Naftogaz Group has built an Industrial Safety Management System.

The built management system is unique and has no analogues not only in the industry, but also in Ukraine. During its implementation, the requirements of the most modern international standards were used: EN ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

Over the years of its existence, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has proven and continues to prove its ability to effectively and reliably perform security functions delegated by the state.

Civil protection, fire and man-made safety

Ensuring civil protection, fire and man-made safety is a component of production and other activities of officials and employees of enterprises. Civil protection, fire and man-made safety are provided by carrying out organizational and technical measures aimed at preventing fires, ensuring human safety, reducing possible property losses and reducing the negative consequences of their occurrence, creating conditions for successful firefighting.

At the company's production facilities, civil protection, fire and man-caused safety is provided by organizing and conducting control over the state of civil protection, fire and man-caused safety, timely detection of deviations from established standards on these issues, planning, implementation and control of compliance with requirements. civil protection, fire and man-made safety at all levels of production management.

In the company:

  • comprehensive measures are developed to ensure civil protection, fire and man-made safety, achievements of science and technology, positive experience are implemented;
  • in accordance with the regulations on civil protection, fire and man-made safety, regulations, instructions and other regulations in force within the company are developed and approved, their compliance is constantly monitored;
  • training of employees in fire safety rules and promotion of measures are conducted;
  • fire protection and communication equipment, firefighting equipment, equipment and inventory are kept in good condition, their misuse is not allowed;
  • voluntary fire protection units and the material and technical base necessary for their functioning are created in accordance with the established procedure;
  • measures are being taken to introduce automatic means of detecting and extinguishing fires using industrial automation for this purpose, etc.
