Support for Ukrainian energy security and decarbonization of the gas sector - these are the main goals set out in a new memorandum signed by the Ukrainian government and Naftogaz Group with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on 21 June.
Despite ongoing military hostilities, we continue to ensure the stable operation of the energy system and look for new opportunities to protect it. Today, the support of international partners is one of the most important factors guaranteeing the stability of the Ukrainian energy industry. We are grateful to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for their willingness to work together and implement new ambitious projects," commented Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov.
The signed memorandum ednvisages:
- creation of strategic gas reserves, which are important for the energy security of Ukraine and the sustainable passage of the next two heating seasons;
- implementation of projects focusing on decarbonization and reduction of methane emissions;
- involvement of donor support;
- development of energy efficiency.
Background: since the beginning of 2023, Naftogaz Group has paid more than UAH 40 billion to the state budget.
