We are Operating as Usual with Respect to Injection and Withdrawal of Gas – Oleksiy Chernyshov for Financial Times

Oleksiy Chernyshоv, CEO of Naftogaz Group, said in a Financial Times article that several attacks occurred in March and April on above-ground infrastructure, and that repairs have been taken.

Last year European entities stored in Ukrainian storage facilities about 2.5 bcm of gas ahead of the winter months, as the country offered incentives such as competitive storage tariffs.

This year, the rate of injection has slightly decreased due to Russian attacks on gas infrastructure. However, the main factor remains commercial, namely the spread. The gas price has not been profitable enough for traders to build up reserves.

Last year, the pumping peaked in August-September, and the season lasted until October.

It is expected that European underground gas storage facilities will soon be filled up, as they are already 86% full, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe.

At the same time, according to Oleksiy Chernyshov, there will be plenty of free space in Ukrainian storage facilities in September and October. In addition, the company is constantly working on additional infrastructure protection.
