The memorandum also provides for joint work to modernise equipment at underground gas storage facilities. The parties will also explore the joint implementation of other Siemens Energy solutions for gas storage in Ukraine.
In addition, the parties may hold technical consultations on the potential deployment of power generation systems based on Siemens Energy gas turbines, as well as automated control systems.
The memorandum was signed at a roundtable bringing together Ukrainian and German companies and attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Participants also included First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche.
Naftogaz’s experience in protecting and restoring facilities, combined with Siemens Energy’s technologies, will help make Ukraine’s energy system more resilient. Our engineers are ready to share their experience and work with their German counterparts on joint solutions to protect oil and gas infrastructure and strengthen energy supply security. We are grateful to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chancellor Friedrich Merz for advancing the Ukrainian-German partnership, which enables us to turn agreements into concrete projects,” said Sergii Fedorenko, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz.
“At a time of continued escalation, Ukraine needs reliable partners who take action. We stand firmly with Ukraine. The Memorandum of Understanding that we have signed today reflects our long-term commitment to strengthening the country’s energy resilience and advancing energy technologies. Together with Naftogaz Group, we also aim to develop innovative resilience solutions that can benefit energy systems around the world. Supporting Ukraine today means helping to build a more resilient energy future for tomorrow,” said Christian Bruch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy.
To implement the projects, the parties will consider a range of financing mechanisms, including those involving international financial institutions, development banks, and export credit agencies from partner countries.
