Naftogaz Group completes integration of gas distribution system operators

Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has prioritized bolstering the nation's energy stability.

Naftogaz has now completed the integration of regional and city gas distribution system operators (DSOs or “oblgazes”), Naftogaz CEO Oleksiy Chernyshov announced on 28 December 2023.

"As planned, we have successfully integrated regional and city gas distribution system operators into the Naftogaz Group," Chernyshov stated.

Chernyshov noted that this breakthrough meant increased responsibility with a larger customer base.

"This expansion was imperative for the stability of critical infrastructure, sustaining business operations, and ensuring the well-being of Ukrainians. Given the persistent risk of shelling and potential blackouts, maintaining uninterrupted gas supply is paramount. I extend my gratitude to everyone involved in supplying gas to our cities and villages," he commented.

Chernyshov underlined that gaining operational control over regional enterprises empowers the state to not only guarantee uninterrupted gas supply but also to end corrupt practices that previously drained billions from the state budget.

The Naftogaz Group Chairman of the Board anticipates significant financial contributions to the state budget from DSOs during the upcoming year, with the figure expected to exceed UAH 5 billion.

"This initiative safeguards 50,000 jobs and secures billions in revenue for the state treasury. Additionally, it improves gas quality control and offers a simpler payment system for nearly 10 million users," Chernyshov concluded.
