Oleksiy Chernyshov appointed new Naftogaz CEO

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal presented the new Naftogaz Chairman Oleksiy Chernyshov on 4 November. PM Shmyhal noted the company's important role in Ukraine's gas supply and thanked the Naftogaz team for working in the extremely difficult conditions caused by the Russian invasion.

Introducing the new head of the company, Shmyhal emphasized his extensive professional experience and expressed confidence that the development of Naftogaz will gain new momentum under Chernyshov’s leadership.

The Prime Minister identified a number of key priorities including stable passage of the heating season, the accumulation of gas in storage facilities, addressing financing issues, ensuring the operation of thermal power plants, and increasing domestic gas production.

"I am convinced that the Naftogaz team under the leadership of Oleksiy Chernyshov will be able to successfully address all the priorities that we have today and will continue to demonstrate impressive professionalism in the most challenging of circumstances," he emphasized.

The new head of Naftogaz expressed his thanks for the trust placed in him and confirmed his readiness to address current priorities including ensuring energy stability and independence, increasing trust in Naftogaz on the part of the state, international partners, creditors, and investors, and securing sustainable passage of the current heating season.

"It is an honor for me to lead a company that is one of the key elements of our national energy security. We have a lot of work to do in order for Naftogaz to become a strong, independent, transparent institution capable of effectively fulfilling the tasks set before it. Our goal is to become both independent and stable in the energy sector at the same time," Chernyshov stated.
