Naftogaz received gas-fired generator sets with a total capacity of 150 MW, which will provide backup power and heat supply for critical infrastructure and residential areas. Roman Chumak said the donation was a critical lifeline for Naftogaz and the Ukrainian people.
This equipment will ensure reliable energy supplies to critical infrastructure and homes, even during the ongoing attacks on our energy grid,” he commented. “This support significantly strengthens our ability to deliver essential services and bolster the resilience of our nation.” Chumak noted that in particular, this support would strengthen the energy security of two major Ukrainian cities and provide electricity and heat to over 500,000 residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region during the next heating season.
Ukrgasvydobuvannya received equipment to enhance natural gas production, which is critical for the country’s energy security. Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide underlined that this equipment is not just a short-term solution but also a strategic investment in Ukraine’s future energy security. “We understand the critical role of reliable energy in rebuilding communities and fostering economic recovery, and we are committed to standing with Ukraine as it navigates these challenges,” she commented. “We’re confident that this investment will contribute significantly to a more prosperous and secure Ukraine.”
Norway has also helped with the delivery of two 330 kV autotransformers with a capacity of 200 MVA to Ukraine’s state-owned electricity transmission system operator Ukrenergo. This will enhance the stability and reliability of the Ukrainian power system.
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko stressed that the equipment would significantly improve the reliability of electricity and heating supplies for millions of Ukrainians while ensuring the provision of essential services like healthcare and education and helping to drive Ukraine’s economic recovery. “This support from Norway is a vital lifeline, enabling us to strengthen our energy infrastructure and build resilience against future disruptions,” Galushchenko noted. “These are not just machines. They represent renewed hope for a secure and prosperous future for Ukraine. We’re deeply grateful for Norway's steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine's energy sector.”
UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Jaco Cilliers said UNDP was proud to partner with Norway in delivering this critical equipment, which he said would have a profound impact on the lives of millions of Ukrainians. “This project exemplifies UNDP's dedication to supporting Ukraine's recovery efforts, ensuring that essential services are maintained, and that communities have access to reliable energy,” Cilliers commented. “We’re committed to supporting Ukraine’s long-term development and building a more equitable and prosperous future.”
