Naftogaz CEO on working visit to Kharkiv region

Oleksiy Chernyshov met with staff at the Kharkiv region and Kharkiv city branches of GAZMEREZHI during a working visit to the region.

In the course of discussing current issues, the head of Naftogaz expressed gratitude for their good work in preparing for the heating season.

Chernyshov noted that in 2023, the company not only achieved a 7% increase in Ukrainian gas production, but also filled underground gas storage facilities ahead of winter. He said the issue of efficient gas distribution was now no less important, given the potential threats and attacks on critical infrastructure by Russia.

We have some experience from the previous year. But we understand that the enemy has also drawn conclusions. Therefore, we must be prepared for unexpected scenarios. We are cooperating with distribution network companies in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region to provide heat despite all the threats and to eliminate risks which unfortunately are quite possible," commented Chernyshov.

Oleksiy Skryl, Chairman of the Board of GAZMEREZHI, noted that work in this direction is underway. "We are moving towards building a national operator of Ukraine's gas distribution networks. The process of integrating regional gas companies into a single system is ongoing."

At the same time, Dmytro Bezpalov, acting director of the Kharkiv branch, added that the company currently serves 12.3 thousand km of gas networks along with more than 450,000 subscribers.

There are issues because we are at war. Since July 2023 alone, 180 km of gas pipelines and 3 gas control points have been restored. In general, we are 100% ready for the heating season," he added.

The city of Kharkiv itself is also ready for winter, said Vitaly Stepanenko, acting director of the Kharkiv city branch. "Our gas networks are constantly expanding. Today this network totals about 2.6 thousand km. The main area of work is the distribution of natural gas to Kharkiv residents, institutions, state employees, legal entities and other consumers. We are confident that 100% of equipment has been tested and repaired."

GAZMEREZHI recently received licences for gas distribution in six regions.
