JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya, a member of Naftogaz Group, has begun pilot operation of a new software package “Bee-UGV” specifically designed and dedicated to capture data from energy (natural gas, liquid hydrocarbons, electricity) metering units and to quantify natural gas in energy units (kWh).
Quantification of gas volumes using energy units is an almost global practice. In Ukraine, gas volumes are currently calculated in cubic metres, but this method of accounting does not cover the fuel’s calorific value. The transition to energy units will be mandatory from 1 May, 2022 (in compliance with Law of Ukraine No. 1850-IX of 02 November 2021 “On Amendments To Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine On The Introduction Of Natural Gas Market Accounting And Calculation Of Gas Volume In Energy Units”). Once live, the software package will make it possible to take into account not only the volume of gas, but also its quantity in energy units.
“A clear, transparent and unified energy metering system is one of the key tasks facing all Naftogaz Group companies. By going live with this modern software product, Ukrgasvydobuvannya confirms its readiness to systematically work in the new environment and to switch to natural gas metering in energy units,” said Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko.
The new software package will also enable prompt receipt and analysis of information from automated metering units for natural gas, oil and gas condensate, formation water, electricity, flow and laboratory devices used for determining the physical and chemical parameters of natural gas, combustion value, moisture content etc.
Ukrgasvydobuvannya’s new energy accounting software package enables the following additional functions:
- Converting natural gas volumes to new standard conditions (in compliance with the requirements of Law of Ukraine No. 1974-IX “On Amendments To Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine On Ensuring Transparency In Extractive Industries”).
- Storage of information received and calculated in a single database.
- Automatic transfer of information to other systems (such as SCADA, MES, and ERP (SAP)).
- Prompt calculation of gas consumption using two measurement methods.
- Quick selection of statistical data per metering unit for estimation of production and technological losses.
- Automatic generation of appropriate format files for exchange with contractors and reporting.
“Pilot operation of the Bee-UGV software package takes place in working conditions. We check all software components, services, and modules. We conduct fault tolerance crash tests. We can now be confident in saying that the speed of obtaining information from metering units and its processing has increased multi-fold compared to previous programs,” said Head of Natural Gas and Electricity Metering and Balances Department of JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya Volodymyr Yurchenko.
“Until recently, creation of a single software package for the recording and processing of information from a vast number of devices serving different purposes was considered impossible. But our experts have pushed the envelope, and with Bee-UGV they connected 3,176 metering units into a single system. If need be, we are now able to track real-time readings from 100 metering units simultaneously,” added Chief Commercial Officer of JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya Sergiy Fedorenko.
The software package has been developed by specialists of JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya and Research and Development Institute of Gas Transport (JSC Ukrtransgaz). This cooperation yielded a unique product that meets all modern requirements.
